‘Let’s create our own identity’

BUY Zimbabwe chairperson, Munyaradzi Hwengwere, has encouraged Zimbabweans to create their own identity by promoting local companies, which offer unique products.

Speaking during the Buy Zimbabwe Week Promotion Roadshow at TM Pick n Pay Machipisa, Hwengwere said people should promote local companies as a way of creating a national identity.

“As Zimbabweans, we still don’t have a specific identity based on the way we dress since most of the clothes are primarily imported from other countries.

“I believe we should try by all means to eat and wear Zimbabwean products.

“If we work together as a nation to promote our local products, we can create a Zimbabwean brand thereby creating our own identity in the world,” he said.

“We should note that importing foodstuff is now expensive compared to buying locally produced goods.

“We are happy that most of the people are starting to promote our local goods,” Hwengwere said.

Tafara Marasha, one of the people who attended the road-show, said she had learnt a lot from the campaign.

“I am happy with this information that I have, and I can now start my own business knowing that people will always support me,” she said.
