ZIMBABWEANS must engage in activities that develop the economy and not harm it, opposition Zimbabwe African National Congress (ZANC) president, Mr Timothy Mncube, has said.In a statement yesterday, Mr Mncube explained that he did not take sides, but “calls for wisdom, peace and respect for our national Constitution”.
“The Constitution of Zimbabwe is the supreme law of the land. It protects all citizens and clearly outlines the rights and responsibilities of leaders, including the sitting President.
“His Excellency President Mnangagwa was elected into office through a constitutional process, and unless removed through lawful and democratic means, he is entitled to complete his term.
“This is not about personalities, it is about protecting the integrity of our nation’s governance,” he said.
His remarks follow calls by renegade war veteran Blessed Geza, who initially called for a two-day stayaway beginning tomorrow ending Wednesday, but turned around today and said the job boycott should be indefinite, until President Mnangagwa steps down.
But Mr Mncube said any attempts to remove a sitting President outside of the law were uncalled for and should be shunned by all right-thinking people
“We must always ask: Who is speaking to us, and where are they leading us? The future of Zimbabwe depends on the decisions we make today—decisions rooted in law, order, and peace.
“I do not condemn nor endorse Mr Geza’s words; I do not speak against or for President Mnangagwa in this context. I speak for Zimbabwe—for its peace, its people, and its future. Our loyalty must not be to chaos but to justice. Our energy must not be spent on division but on rebuilding,” he said.
Mr Mncube added that anyone who “truly loves Zimbabwe” must strive to defend it through a commitment to the Constitution.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has also called on the people to continue exploring avenues of growing the economy and not paying attention to cyber terrorists who always wish the country bad.
“As we continue to celebrate our national independence, utilising the inclusive approach through decentralisation and devolution of national events, leaving no place and no one behind, we must remain united against cyber terrorism and enemies of progress,” said Dr Muswere.
“We have a responsibility to build our country. Zimbabweans should utilise the internet for development. We should ignore calls from unproductive charlatans and merchants of falsehoods, who seek to reverse the gains of the liberation struggle, through demonisation of Zimbabwe’s image, its people and leadership, through misinformation and malice.
“As Zimbabweans, we are hardworking, enterprising, focused people who have a responsibility to develop our country. We fought and we won. We conquered and now we must continue to work develop our country,” said Dr Muswere.
Geza, a former Zanu PF Central Committee member, was fired for indiscipline.
