The drug and substance abuse menace should be tamed as it’s affecting the mindset of the youth, Skills Audit and Development Minister Professor Paul Mavima has said.
Speaking at the International Youth Fellowship initiative, Minister Mavima said it was important that a problem-solving culture is fostered.
The Minister said the initiative was also well in tandem with the mandate of the Ministry under his purview.
“It’s related to mindset, it probably gives you a good heart and a positive mindset,” he said.
“What the ministry deals with is not just specific skills especially those that can be obtained in school, universities and the like, the ministry also aiming at cross cutting things e.g. issues related to problem solving, issues related to a positive outlook.
“The mind changing programme that the IYF teaches across the world is also along those lines to say I can solve my own problems.”
Minister Mavima said the IYF initiative also gelled well with President Mnangagwa’s nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” philosophy.
“The gospel is similar to what His Excellency is preaching to say as Zimbabweans we can solve our problems ourselves hence the whole idea nyika inovakwa nevene vayo and this is the same gospel the IYF is preaching,” he said.
Minister Mavima said it was important that Zimbabweans initiate a change of mindset as this would take the country forward.
The initiative was headed by Rev Dr Ock Soo Park who is in the country.
IYF was established as a worldwide youth organisation and international NGO based on Christian mindset in 2001, to raise leaders with a global insight through youth education, activities, and provide realistic solutions to problems in the global village.
Rev Park said they had made tremendous strides in changing lives globally.
