Zanu-PF must move forward as a united front and rebrand itself, a senior member of the revolutionary party has said. Zanu-PF national chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said it was time for the ruling party to rebrand and create space for everyone to join the party. She said this on Sunday while addressing guests at a function organised by Mutasa District to celebrate her appointment by President Mnangagwa as Zanu-PF national chairperson.
“Let us show love for each other,” she said.
“Let us change the way we have been operating and our approach to things, too. Let us rebrand Zanu-PF so that it shows change, so that it becomes evident it’s a party whose leaders have vision. We need caring leaders who put people ahead of themselves.” Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri urged the people of Manicaland to work together.
She challenged party members to stop purging each other. Her new role as national chairperson, she said, allowed her to address issues that go beyond Manicaland Province. “You should also know that I am no longer the child of Manicaland,” she said.
“I am now the chairwoman for the whole country. I know there has been purging of party members, but this is no longer the time for that. This chairwoman will not do that, but she will be working with the constitution. Whenever we wrong each other, we have to find mechanisms that we put in place to resolve our differences.”
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said the party’s provincial chairpersons were the face of the revolutionary party and were duty-bound to work for the people. “Chairpersons, you are the face of Zanu-PF. You should listen to other people and you should embrace all people, be it teachers, churches, (the) physically challenged, and even those who are wrong should not be denounced in front of crowds,” she said.
“Embrace all, and even the poorest should feel loved in Zanu-PF. You should respect all people because it will help us in future.” Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said chairpersons should be conversant with current affairs. The weekend event was attended by several Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial leaders, legislators and the business community.
