AS the country prepares for by-elections for both parliamentary and local authorities, Zanu PF aspiring legislators and councillors have been warned against standing as independent candidates as that will be considered as a sign of indiscipline.
Addressing delegates at the 20th Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference in Gweru yesterday, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said as the country prepares for by-elections, party members should be focused and remain united to ensure a resounding victory.
“Let me remind you that the country will soon be having by-elections. Our President has urged us to remain united as a party, with a single purpose of developing this great nation,” said VP Chiwenga.
He urged party members to exercise high levels of discipline and be guided by the party’s constitution.
“We should maintain discipline and uphold party ethos under our sole leader, the First Secretary of the party, Zanu PF, President Mnangagwa. Therefore, we do not want independent candidates from Zanu PF as that goes against the good order and discipline our revolutionary party Zanu PF is known for,” VP Chiwenga said.
He called on party members to implement ongoing and new programmes and projects in support of President Mnangagwa’s vision.
“By so doing we will be able to consolidate the party’s strength. We should all be mindful that our campaigns should be based on performance and delivery of goods and services to the people.
“I urge us all to forget about some divisive opposition parties who continue to daydream about an inclusive Government. That will not happen here.
“There is no scope for that in Zimbabwe as Zanu PF has won the harmonised elections and formed the Government according to our laws. Our President is now focusing on production, productivity and development,” said VP Chiwenga.
This comes after the country’s opposition that lost the August harmonised elections has been trying to have a seat in Government despite their electoral loss.
The Vice President called on party members to always follow the instructions of President Mnangagwa, saying there is no room for factionalism in the ruling party.
