‘Let’s stand with our people, always’

President and Zanu PF First Secretary Cde Mnangagwa’s full address to the National Consultative Assembly in Harare yesterday

IT is my singular honour to be addressing this session of the National Consultative Assembly.

We convene today, following the successful meetings of the Politburo and Central Committee. These meetings are important platforms, as we focus on the second half of the year, a period during which we will hold our traditional National People’s Conference, among other scheduled party activities.

On the Government side, we expect to scale up preparations for the summer cropping season, complete various national projects and launch our economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy 2.

I extend my warm revolutionary greetings to you and thank you all, for your consistency and commitment to our party. Ndinokugamuchirai mose nekuuya kumusangano wedu. Ngiyalamukela ngokubuya emhlanganweni wethu.

I am aware that members of the NCA are much more than the numbers represented here.

I am, however, confident that the outcome of our deliberations will be reported back to them, through the provincial structures.

The convening of this meeting, which is held twice a year, is in line with the provisions of Article 11 of our party Constitution, regarding the powers and functions of the National Consultative Assembly.

It provides us with an opportunity to share the progress being made by our revolutionary party in advancing policies, programmes and projects we have set for ourselves.

As per tradition, we will receive and debate matters concerning our Party, as well as make the appropriate recommendations to advance the aims and objectives of the party.

Us here gathered are the most experienced and seasoned members of the party. Some of us have held various offices in the party, Government as well as within our communities and private sector.

Our movement and the party membership base must benefit from the vast wisdom and experience we collective share.

The NCA is, thus, challenged to continue playing its important role of helping to guide the party towards maintaining the correct ideological line, especially the youth.

Through our concerted efforts, the unity, organisational and mobilisation prowess of ZANU PF, must remain intact and should be carried forward to future cadres of the party.

This is what was bequeathed to us by our Founding Fathers and the many cadres that established and grew this mammoth revolutionary, party.

A few days ago, on the 1st of July, we remembered one of the luminaries of our great nation, the late National Hero, ‘Father Zimbabwe, Chibwechitedza, Umdala Wethu, Cde Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo.

We cherish his indelible footprints on national unity, peace, social cohesion and the importance of our land as an eternal heritage to the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe. May his legacy live on.

Over the intervening period, the party and the people of our great country, Zimbabwe, endured the loss of several gallant sons and daughters of the soil. Some were laid to rest at our National Heroes Acre, while others across our provinces and districts.

I invite us all to observe a minute of silence in their honour.

I thank you.

Comrades; the sacrifice of the many sons and daughters of Zimbabwe, which brought about our Independence and freedom, is a source of inspiration to the party and the people of our great country.

This has seen us achieving unprecedented success milestones under the Second Republic.

ZANU PF continues to stand with the people of our beloved motherland in facing the illegal sanctions and climate-induced disasters, among other challenges.

ZANU PF is one with the people.

I want to commend both the leadership and membership for the achievements we are attaining at both our party and Government levels. Murivapi vemazano kumusangano wedu, ndinokutendai mose/ Ngiyalibongalonke.

Through you, our party, ZANU PF, carries the weighty responsibility to facilitate development that leaves no one and no place behind. Ngatishandisei zvigaro zvatinazvo mumusangano kusimudzira mabasa ebudiriro kumaruwa kwatinobva.

The party is alive and responding to the broader development needs of both present and future generations. To date, we have rolled out the Presidential Youth, War Veterans and Vendors’ Empowerment Schemes, among others.

These initiatives are seeing high-impact results, including improving the incomes and livelihoods of our people.

The National Consultative Assembly is assured that our ZANU PF Party will continue to pay particular attention to increasing production and productivity in the agriculture sector, as well as through the village business units.

More boreholes will be drilled at the village level, while inputs under the Pfumvudza/ Intwasa programme will continue to be distributed in good time.

We must remain a food-secure country and increase exports of our agricultural products. So far, Government is putting in place measures to ensure the value addition of all our crops, such as tobacco.

Our people should get the best possible prices for all our local Zimbabwean products.

Following the successful 2024/2025 rainfall season, we are set for yet another bumper harvest. I call upon you, the Party leadership, to encourage our farmers to deliver grain to the GMB and to utilise the grain collection depots in the designated areas, across provinces and districts.

My Fellow Comrades; ZANU PF-led programmes and projects are inclusive and are being undertaken in all provinces, districts and wards. Resources for the rehabilitation, upgrading and maintenance of our country’s roads have been mobilised, with works having started in most areas.

I was pleased to commission one of ZANU PF’s signature projects, the Trabablas Traffic Interchange.

This project is a befitting showcase of Zimbabwean talent, ingenuity and potential. Similar infrastructure will be rolled out in more cities across the country.

The rehabilitation and construction of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road has begun. Other road projects include Birchenough-Chipinge Road; Murambinda-Mudanda Road; Gokwe-Nkayi Road; Kuwirirana-Nemangwe Road; Muzvezve-Empress Mine Road; Zvishavane-Rutenga Road; Rushinga-Chimhanda Road; Murehwa-Madacheche Road; Headlands-Mayo Road; Beitbridge-Bulawayo Road and Harare-Chirundu Road, among others.

There is increased economic activity in the countryside, driven by our rural industrialisation projects and expanding mining sector. To release pressure off our roads, the resuscitation and modernisation of our national railways is now an urgent priority, which Government is seized with.

On the economic front, the measures Government implemented to strengthen fiscal discipline and promote a stable currency mix are bearing fruit, with evident macro- economic stability. I commend the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe, for the socio-economic progress we are making since adopting our gold-backed currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZIG).

Investment by our local children and Zimbabweans in the Diaspora is applauded. This reflects the growing confidence and patriotism among our people towards our motherland, Zimbabwe.

Let us, however, remain vigilant against those who may attempt to undermine our country’s progress, economy and national image. Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo.

Meanwhile, the health and overall well-being of our people is a key national priority as we journey towards Vision 2030.

In the social services sector, we are making bold interventions, particularly with regards to health, education and access to safe water. The NCA will receive detailed reports, with regards updates on the various economic sectors.

In line with our Devolution and Decentralisation Policy, and standing decision to rotate the hosting of national events across the country, the 2026 Independence Day Celebrations will be hosted by Matabeleland South Province.

In the same spirit, this year’s 22nd National People’s Conference will be held in Manicaland Province. I urge the party to play a visible role in the upcoming celebrations of the Heroes and Defence Forces commemorations.

Finally, comrades, as the curtain comes down on these high-level meetings of our party, let us go back to our provinces and continue to preach unity within the Party and among our people. The Party membership should never let their guard down.

Let us remain alert, focused and work harder to build, modernise and mobilise more people to join our colossal revolutionary mass Party, ZANU PF. In doing so, ngatingwarire vanoita zinyekenyeke, kana gumbo mumba, gumbo panze.

As you are all aware, our party is founded on constitutionalism, discipline, patriotism and loyalty.

We must all stay true to the correct party line and teach our strong revolutionary ideals to the younger members of the party.

Together, let us advance, defend, and promote the interests of our party, communities at the grassroots level and our nation as a whole. ZANU PF shall forever remain a people’s party, by the people and for the people.

Tiri musangano weruzhinji hweZimbabwe. Isu tirihove, vanhu imvura. Hatisiyani nevanhu venyika yekwedu. Tikachengetedza izvi, tinoramba tichitonga, tigotonga tichingotonga; vanowukura vachingowukura.

With these remarks, I once again welcome you to this meeting of the National Consultative Assembly and wish us fruitful deliberations towards improving the quality of life of our people and accelerating our national economic prosperity.
