Letter to du Plessis

comments in The Herald not only myopic but utter nonsense and unexpected from a person of your stature in a present day Zimbabwe.
Certainly, not at a time when some of us are trying to heal the country of racism and tribalism.
You wrote that, “appointing (Ray) Price or (Brendan) Taylor may have spelt trouble . . . many would have considered it taking a step backwards if we were to appoint Price or Taylor as our new captain.”
The problem with people like you is that you have become relentless bulldogs who will do anything to further whatever agenda they have.
Do you care to explain why you made such comments and justify yourself?
The one thing that has destroyed sport in this country is the race card, which you now want to bring back to our beloved sport.
What a shame.
Looking at the recent World Cup, Price proved to be the natural leader in the team. His age and experience will also count on his side.
Now, which “backwards” are you referring to? Is it the time when whites ruled the roost in the team?
I can tell you that then the team was selected on merit not race. Henry Olonga was there because he was by far a good bowler than the actors we have now.
It’s a shame that you, of all people, has decided to turn a blind eye on the effects of our ill-advised quota system and the subsequent whites’ withdrawal in the so-called rebel era.
Have you any idea what happened to tennis after the Black brothers?
Now is not the time to play the race card, you fool.
We need to support appointments based on merit, and I think Price is the best option for the captaincy.
We know you might love (Tatenda) Taibu and his inconsistencies, but don’t bring our beloved sport to the dead.
