IT all began, with a suggestive comment he made to a 17-year-old girl who walked past him and his friends during a beer drink in which he complimented her “glam” appearance saying she was now ripe for sex.
But things quickly escalated into an ugly confrontation that led to the man, Obert Mpofu (25) from Bulawayo’s Burnside suburb, being arrested for criminal insult.
The confrontation occurred on 19 October at a Sports Bar in Burnside suburb, where the girl was helping at her parents’ shop.
It is reported that when the girl who is in Lower Sixth at a school in the city went outside to look for change and walked past Mpofu who was sitting under a tree with his friends.
Mpofu, apparently out of lust, loudly called out the girl’s name and said: “izibunu lezo sezibambeka, imbu*** leyo ngifuna ukuyibamba usudleka” meaning “those buttocks are now mature enough to be fondled and I want to fondle that va**** , you are now mature for sex).
The girl who seemed to have been offended by Mpofu’s inappropriate remarks did not respond. She, however, went back and alerted her mother who later reported the matter to the police leading to the man’s arrest.
For the offence the foul-mouthed Mpofu was brought before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Mjanja charged with criminal insult as defined in section 95 (1) (a) of the Criminal law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to next week.
