Lewis Chitengwa to be remembered

in the United States beating Tiger Woods.
He later on in 1993 became the first black player to win the South African Amateur championship in its 101 years.
In 1999 Chitengwa scored another by becoming the first player to take part in the Bycom Tour in America and was leading the tour.
The only Lewis Chitengwa memorial that was held was in 2002 in Charlottesville, Virginia United States as part of the 2002 Canadian Professional Golf Winter tour.
Chitengwa won a posthumous award alongside three history making golfers who included veteran Nick Price and Tony Johnstone. This year the Chitengwa family will remembers the golfer with a memorial tournament this year.
Lewis Muridzo Chitengwa senior the father of the late talented athlete said they are planning to host the event.
“We plan to host a Lewis Chitengwa memorial tournament. It was our wish to hold the tournament on the 10th anniversary of his death but things did not go according to plan.
“We are hopeful that we will be able to organise the tournament this year and we urge the co-operate world to help in the endeavour.
“We hope to bring together all golfers from all ranks that is juniors, amateurs and professionals to take part in the historic event set for sometime this year,” Chitengwa said.
Chitengwa died on June 30 at the age of 26 and a foundation in his name has also been established.
