Liberation war hero Ncube dies

LIBERATION war hero Cde Liver Ncube who died in Bulawayo on Wednesday will be buried today at his rural home in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North Province.

Cde Ncube whose nom de guerre during the liberation war was Philip Makwelo died at Mpilo Central Hospital at the age of 62. He is survived by his wife Christina Mguni and 10 children, five boys and five girls.

Cde Ncube did his primary education at Pelela Primary School in Tsholothso from Sub A to Standard Three. He joined the liberation struggle in 1977 and received military training at Mwembeshi, Zambia.

After completing military training, Cde Ncube returned home and operated in the Hurungwe, Magurekure area in Mashonaland West Province.

At ceasefire he assembled at Romeo Camp in Magurekure, and was integrated into the Zimbabwe National Army. Cde Ncube returned to his home area, Tsholotsho in 1982 after the demobilisation exercise.

At the time of his death he was an active member of the ruling party Zanu-PF and a member of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA). A funeral service was held for him at a city parlour before the body was taken to Tsholotsho for burial.
