Byo Province urged to stop infighting

THE ruling Zanu-PF risks losing the ground it has gained in Bulawayo if it does not address the issue of infighting and indiscipline among members, an official has said.

Zanu-PF Women’s League Deputy Secretary Cde Eunice Nomthandazo Moyo who is also the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Bulawayo said this during a heated first Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) meeting of the year held at Davies Hall yesterday.

“It is important for leaders to meet and discuss problems affecting themselves, all things should be spoken here. We must not use this as a platform to insult one another, this will not make us win in 2018 if we continue at this pace,” said Cde Moyo.

She said personal and factional issues had no slot at Zanu-PF meetings, saying meetings should be held in accordance with the constitution of the party. Cde Moyo said indiscipline by leaders in the party was resulting in the province being sidelined during important meetings.

“There was a meeting that was held here yesterday (Friday) and our locals (leaders) were not invited, some people were handpicked to attend and there was no letter inviting the leadership. It is because of our infighting that make officials sideline us. Let us be a united front,” she said.

She made reference to the Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union public lecture held at the Bulawayo Polytechnic on Friday which was addressed by Vice-President Emmerson Mnangangwa.

Bulawayo provincial secretary for administration Cde Nacisio Makulumo said the party has a mammoth task ahead of the next general elections.

“We are bubbling with confidence after our latest victory in the Nkulumane by-elections so our task is to ensure we win again and this is possible if there are less squabbles, less talking and fighting among ourselves in the province,” he said.

He castigated members of the party who are allegedly double dipping.

“Some of us here are double dipping, you come here and you are Zanu-PF by day and PF (People First) by night. We cannot have that in our party,” he said.

Veteran politician Cde Angeline Masuku then took a swipe at Cde Makulumo for chairing an “un-constitutional” PCC meeting.

“This meeting is not a meeting, it is outside the constitution. Who should attend the PPC? There are people who should not be here at all. There is a need to call in Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko to intervene in the internal squabbles the leadership has in the province,” she said.

During the same meeting Cde Judith Ncube a Central Committee member boldly announced that there were party members attending the Joice Mujuru-led People First meetings in the city, saying they should be exposed.
