Lightning strikes shop, burns goods and money

A GOKWE man was left counting his losses after lightning struck his shop and razed goods and money.

Goliat Mapholisa from the Masawi area under Chief Njelele recounted the horrifying experience.

“It was drizzling while I was sleeping with my wife in the back room at the shop. However, lightning struck down the shop and destroyed all the goods inside,” he said.

It was a heavy loss.

“Goods worth $3 000 such as cartons of 2kg sugar, cases of 2 litres cooking oil and 60 bags of cement and a case of salt went up in flames,” he said.

Even money kept in the shop was burnt.

“There was $1 000 in bond notes also lost,” he said.

He suspects a dark hand from the spiritual world.

“I think there is someone who does not want to see my business flourishing because in 2013 I suffered the same fate after my first shop here at Chomwiro  Business Centre was razed by lightning. And now while I was starting to enjoy the fruits of my hard work then lightning strikes again, leaving me poor,”he said.

Mandiya Village head Michael Mandiya confirmed the shocking incident.

“I received a report stating that Goliat Mapholisa’s shop was struck by lightning. I visited Chomwiro Business Centre and saw how his shop was destroyed,” he said.
