FOR Linda Jena, this is her American Dream.
The United States-based Jena says she is feeling appreciated in America due to her contribution towards helping students realise their dreams.
Linda is a coordinator at Texas A & M University in Commerce, (TAMUC), which has an enrollment of over 12,000 students.
The university is the third-largest institution in the Texas A&M University System.
Texas A&M University System, in a statement, has hailed Linda.
“Through her efforts, Linda has worked collaboratively with departments to help them pursue their programmes.
“She also makes sure the occupancy staff have the information they need to plan appropriately.
“Aside from Linda’s innovative and advancing work in the area of LLCs at TAMUC, she is consistently a positive presence that both students and staff seek out for support and conversations.
“Through her efforts, we are adding one additional LLC partnership this year and are in the beginning stages of adding several more.”
Linda is currently serving in a new role as Living Learning Communities Coordinator.
She has been with the institution for several years and has served in a variety of roles.
“I have developed the process and procedure to create and approve Living Learning Community (LLC) partnerships with RLL (Residential Living Learning).
“I have also done information sessions for faculty and staff to walk them through the process developed and meet regularly with both LLC advisors and sponsoring departments to ensure consistent and effective communication on all sides so that we can best serve our students,” she said.
Linda is currently hosting a six-week workshop on how to teach with AI.
“It’s considered a mid-sized university and Living Learning Communities (LLC) are groups of students who live in residential homes together, they have activities geared towards them.
“I train doctors, teachers, students and resource specialists as well as just training or helping with classroom management.
“I won an award for my work with living-learning communities,” said Linda.
She added:
“I led and directed a student organisation for eight years and I am currently training a faculty at a health science-based institute.
“The activities keep the students engaged and take them to different companies, making sure they have career coaching.
“The students are engaged and getting extra support from teachers. They also get internship opportunities.”
