Lion wreaks havoc in Odzi

Victor Maphosa Herald Reporter
MUKUNI villagers in Odzi, Mutare West, are living in fear of a stray lion that has reportedly killed three cattle and seriously injured one beast. The lion started terrorising villagers at the beginning of October this year, and its latest attack was on October 15, less than two days ago.

Mr David Madzimire, a villager from the area, said there are fears that the lion will eventually attack schoolchildren. He urged the responsible authorities to act swiftly to avoid any loss of lives. Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) spokesperson Mr Tinashe Farawo said the authority has already dispatched a team to deal with the matter.

“Yes, we received information that there is a lion which has since killed cattle in Mukuni and as Zimparks, we had already dispatched a team of officers, including a professional hunter, to track and capture it,” he said.

He assured Mukuni villagers that the stray lion will be captured soon and advised them to assist Zimparks officers with information that might lead to its quick capture.
