THE sixth-edition of the Liqour Hub Fun Run will take place in Bulawayo on December 12.
Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairman Watson Madanyika said the event will bring down the curtain on the 2021 season.
“We have engaged the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and are hopeful it will be a successful event. We encourage all athletes to compete in the last race of the 2021 athletics season. We thank the sponsor for the support in the development of athletics, as this event goes a long way in improving the performances of athletes, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic that forced them to train alone at home without competition,” said Madanyika.
Registration for the race opens on Monday and seniors will pay US$5 or $1 000, while juniors part with US$3 or $600 and walkers (US$2 or $400).
All proceeds will go to charity.
Winners of both the men and women’s races are set to walk away with R3 500, with second-placed athletes getting R2 500 and third-placed R2 000.
In the juniors’ category, the winners will get R1 250, R800 for second prize and R600 for third place. In the wheelchair section, the first prize is R1 500 and the runner-up gets R1 000.
There are also prizes for the youngest male and female athletes, with R300 going to the first finisher and R250 for the second.
About 300 runners took part in last year’s event.
