Lira expected this Friday

Dubbed the “Lira Concert”, the much-hyped gig will see the talented singer sharing the stage with Zimbabwe’s Chiwoniso Maraire, Alexio Kawara and Prudence Katomeni-

Mbofana.

Lira is a seven times South African Music Award winner and has been making waves since her debut in 2003. She is still riding on the success of her latest album “Return to Love” that was released in January 2011.

The album drew together everything that Lira has worked for from the time she emerged on the music scene. Other albums in her name include “Soul in Mind”, “Feel Good” and “All My Love”. “Live in Concert”, a celebration DVD of tours in different parts of the world, has also become a hit.

The name “Lira” translates to “love” in Sesotho and she refers to her music as a fusion of soul, funk and elements of jazz.
It remains to be seen if her golden voice will live up to the billing like she has done before.

While all eyes would be on Lira because of her international profile, Zimbabwean musicians billed to perform are capable of rising to the occasion.
Chiwoniso is a heavyweight in her own right. She is an accomplished singer, songwriter and exponent of Zimbabwean mbira music.

Fronting the youthful Shades of Black, Kawara is known for getting it right on the vocals, sound quality, playlist apart from interacting well with the audience.
Kawara is also known for dishing out a full package with drummer Lesley Gurumani, lead guitarist Tawanda Ndoro, bassist Edwin Matambira and Cornelius Muponda (keyboard) and backing vocalist Ndomupei Masendeke, who have proved to be an amazing team whenever they set their minds to entertain their fans.

Kawara has been one of the most consistent young musicians and his music has come of age since he burst onto the music scene at the turn of the millennium. Kawara, who is an afro-fusion musician, has a number of hit tracks that include “Shaina” and “Tinodanana” that he did with Tererai Mugwadi.
