POLICE in Bulawayo have advised members of the public to be vigilant to avoid falling prey to criminals or traffic accidents during the upcoming Heroes and Defence Forces Day public holidays.
Dubbed the long weekend, the holidays fall on Monday 14 August, and Tuesday 15 August, continuing the ‘weekend” after Saturday and Sunday.
In an audio Statement Bulawayo police provincial spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said members of the public should take their security seriously during the long weekend to avoid incidents that might endanger their lives.
He said residents should be aware of various crime-preventing techniques so that they can enjoy their holidays.
He gave tips and advice on how residents can ensure a crime-free holiday.
“Let’s keep our doors and premises locked in our absence. If one is traveling for the holiday utilise our free police under supervision scheme by advising the officer in charge in your area and your premises will be regularly checked. When travelling on foot avoid dark spots and pathways that might endanger you,” said Insp Ncube.
He urged motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads and to avoid leaving any valuables on display in their cars.
Insp Ncube said community members should make sure that Vuzu parties do not take place in their areas.
