LIVE BLOG – Burial of National Hero, Cde Tshinga Dube at the National Heroes Acre

09.28 – All is set for the burial of national hero, Cde Tshinga Dube at the National Heroes Acre. President Mnangagwa will preside.

09.41 – Vice Presidents Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Cde Kembo Mohadi have arrived.

 

09.58 – President Mnangagwa has arrived at the National Heroes Acre for the burial of national hero Cde Tshinga Dube.

10.09 – The acting Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi is now leading the programme

10.11 – Service Chiefs attending the burial of national hero Cde Tshinga Dube at the National Heroes Acre.

10.22 – Cde Tshinga Dube’s two children are now addressing mourners on behalf of the Dube family. They say their father was a loving father who promoted his children in their educational endeavours. They say their father was a passionate soccer supporter who loved his team iBosso iBosso. Cde Dube’s children say their father was a philanthropist who supported many children in paying their fees as well as established various income-generating projects for the community in Makokoba. They say Cde Dube was very patriotic and conclude their speech by thanking President Mnangagwa and the entire nation for recognising their father’s contributions to the country.

10.34 – Cde Ziyambi is back on the podium. He says Cde Dube was known for his loyalty, dedication and patriotism and that the nation is poorer without the man who advocated for the welfare of veterans of the struggle. He invites President Mnangagwa to make his keynote address.

10.39 –President Mnangagwa says Cde Dube was a gallant son of Zimbabwe and a decorated military officer. He expresses heartfelt condolences to the Dube family. His Excellency says Cde Dube was a consistent service to the nation and forthright person who will be greatly missed.

10.44 – He says Cde Dube was a dedicated and patriotic cadre who was loyal to the country and his party Zanu PF. The president is now chronicling Cde Dube’s pre-independence history. He says Cde Dube played a pivotal role in the sourcing of arms to support the liberation struggle which resulted in his arrest. Upon being released from prison Cde Dube was deployed to the front. After independence, Cde Dube was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army where he was awarded various medals due to his diligent service. Upon his retirement from the army, Cde Dube served on various boards. President Mnangagwa says Cde Dube was loyal and compassionate in his service to the Makokoba constituency. The President commends the country for standing firm in the face of attacks to destabilise the economy. He calls upon the media and civil society to shun content that promotes hatred.

11.03 –He says Cde Dube fought a good fight in serving the country and says what the national hero and other luminaries fought for is not in vain as the country will safeguard its liberation gains. The President has concluded his speech.

11.09 – President Mnangagwa has handed over the national flag to Cde Dube’s widow.

11.21 – The body of Col Dube is now at the burial site.

11.29 – The body of national hero Cde Tshinga Dube being lowered into the grave.
