THE ZANU PF United Kingdom District has added its voice to growing calls for the upcoming 23rd Annual National People’s Conference to adopt a resolution to harmonise the Party Constitution with the country’s supreme law and synchronise President Mnangagwa’s tenure with national timelines to 2030.
The 23rd National People’s Conference is scheduled to take place from October 12 to October 17 at the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) in Mashonaland West Province under the theme: “From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Empowerment Towards Vision 2030”.
UK District chairperson Cde Xavier Zavare said the synchronisation of terms at national and institutional levels are crucial to enable efficiency and stability in governance at macro and micro levels following last month’s enactment of the Constitution Amendment (No. 3) Act (CAA3).
He said the August 23 resolutions also recommended extending, after President Mnangagwa’s Party portfolio, the leadership positions of other structures from the cell level. “Our meeting here resolved to endorse an extension of the President and First Secretary Cde Mnangagwa’s tenure to continue leading the party in line with the CAA3, which extended his tenure in office to 2030 and the tenure of those in the National Assembly, Senate and Local Councils.
“Additionally, we have also resolved that the tenure of all the Party’s structures that are currently in place be extended so that the foot soldiers that stood with the Revolutionary Party to win the election and supported and campaigned for CAA3 to be a success, continually occupy positions until 2030,” Cde Zavare said.
The position by the UK District to extend President Mnangagwa’s tenure adds weight to similar calls that have been made across Zimbabwe by all structures, fortified by the developmental trajectory the country has taken under his Second Republic leadership.
Other proposals recommended by the UK District include adopting a motion at the conference “to give the Diaspora membership representation in the Central Committee of the Party” and have the Party use its supremacy to set up a Diaspora government ministry or department.
“Observing that Zimbabwe’s diaspora population is growing both in number and contribution towards our country’s economic development aligned to Vision 2030, remitting nearly $3 billion, approximately 20 percent of foreign currency inflows into our country, we propose that the Party use its supremacy by adopting a resolution which encourages President Mnangagwa to set up a Diaspora government ministry or department with a mandate to harness the full potential of the diaspora population which goes beyond remittances,” reads the resolution.
