Good morning, welcome to the live coverage of the International Day of Families which is being hosted in Bulawayo. The day is being held by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community Small and Medium Enterprises Development, in partnership with Bulawayo City Council and proceedings will be at White city Stadium.
The event, which is observed every May 15 and this year’s theme is “Family-oriented Policies for Sustainable Development: Towards the Second World Summit for Social Development 2025.”
The Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Monica Mutsvangwa, is expected to officiate proceedings of the event.
The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993 and reflects the importance the international community attaches to families.
The International Day provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic, and demographic processes affecting families.

Bulawayo residents have begun trickling into White City Stadium to commemorate the International Day of Families, national launch event.

The commemorations, which are being held in Bulawayo for the first time are running under the theme, Family oriented policies for sustain development: towards the second world summit for social development 2025.
Dozens of exhibitors have set up stalls at the stadium, showcasing a variety of products and services.

Minister Mutsvangwa arrives for International Day of Families commemorations
The Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Cde Monica Mutsvangwa has arrived at White City Stadium in Bulawayo for the International Day of Families, national launch event.

She is accompanied by the permanent secretary for Women Affairs Community, Smallamd Medium Enterprises Development Dr Mavis Sibanda.
They were welcomed by the Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Judith Ncube.

Also present are officials from BCC as well as members from its junior council.
