What a misnomer!
One term that has been hitherto, massively misused is democracy.
Prime examples where the use of the term created a misnomer are, among others, the Movement for Democratic Change, the Democrats and the Liberal Democrats.
Recent events exposed that the self-styled democrats do not walk the talk.
They are democrats without democracy, who are not in any way different from the village tavern. The so-called democrats only profess democracy, instead of living it.
MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai recently threatened traditional leaders with unspecified action if his party wins the next election.
The chiefs are to be persecuted for their democratic rights to support a political party of their taste.
One wonders if coercing the electorate, chiefs for that matter, through intimidation epitomises the democratic principles that MDC-T so generously prescribes to others.
As Mark Skousen, a renowned American Economist noted, the triumph of persuasion over force is the sign of a civilised society Mr Tsvangirai.
Chiefs have political rights to choose parties with ideologies that are compatible with their values.
Zanu-PF is very dear to the traditional leaders because it has reverence for them.
The revolutionary party is currently sweating blood to defend the chiefs’ constitutional authority, jurisdiction and control over land.
On the other hand, the MDCs are trying to undermine the powers of the chiefs by limiting their jurisdiction to the communal land only.
In a scenario like this one, it’s sensible for the chiefs to go with Zanu-PF.
Mr Tsvangirai has no respect for the traditional leaders because his party does not have an African foundation.
It is because the issue of traditional leadership is alien to Mr Tsvangirai’s Western political shepherds.
The threats come at a time when President Mugabe is preaching peace.
Paradoxically, at the same gathering he made his threats, Mr Tsvangirai went on to urge his supporters to shun violence during the election season.
How does the MDC-T leader expect his followers to take heed when he has already promised violence or persecution of the traditional leaders?
Mr Tsvangirai is indicating left when he intends to turn right.
He has already set the election tempo for his supporters who already have a culture of violence.

Mr Tsvangirai’s party enjoys the support of, inter alia, the civil society organisations and some church organisations, some of which actually prayed for the death of President Mugabe.
Does that mean Zanu-PF must also go around threatening them?
Definitely there would be total condemnation by the MDC-T and its Western godfathers.
These groups believe that wrongs are not wrong if they are done by “nice people” like themselves.
There is mounting discontent among some members of the MDC-T over the undemocratic leadership of Mr Tsvangirai. He recently gave a directive which bars aspiring candidates from contesting sitting Parliamentarians and councillors in primary elections for the coming watershed elections.
In other words, primary elections will not be held in favour of imposition.
One wonders if that is the kind of democracy that MDC-T is being paid by the West to propagate.
Democrats are supposed to be very virtuous. Surprisingly there is unprecedented corruption in MDC-T where its top leadership has suddenly amassed obscene wealth.
Writing on his facebook recently, David Coltart demanded that Mr Tsvangirai and President Mugabe must reveal the sources of their income.
That is not important, Mr Coltart because people already know the sources, the Westminster Foundation and well wishers.
What the people probably need to know is what that money was used for. The Zanu-PF leader used that money to fund the food security of the nation while the MDC-T leader funded his sexapade.
Even those who claim to be champions of democracy are more of hypocrites than democrats. Saying is one thing, doing is another. People must consider the sermon and the preacher distinctly.
The US and Britain also come short on this virtue.
Last week, Mr Stuart Rodgers a former Liberal Democrats activist was sentenced at Glasgow Sherriff Court to carry out 100hours of community service for shouting at Prime Minister David Cameron.
Mr Rodgers was alleged to have shouted “no ifs, no buts, no public sector cuts.”
Although Britain prides itself in free speech and protest within limits, it arrested a man who was peacefully making a political point.
