adminLONDON. — Liverpool are the subject of a mega-money takeover bid from the Middle East. Starsport understands talks are at an advanced stage with the prospective new owners hoping to offer boss Jurgen Klopp a huge transfer war-chest this summer. Liverpool are valued at around £650 million and are currently owned by American sports investment company, the Fenway Sports Group.
FSG bought Liverpool for £300 million in October 2010, but since then their value has soared. Last year American business magazine Forbes ranked the Reds as the eighth most valuable football club in the world.
The leap in value is down to a combination of the record-breaking new £5,136 billion Premier League TV deal, which kicks in next season and the club’s increased commercial activities.
A massive cash injection would allow Klopp to compete with Europe’s giants in the summer transfer market.
His No.1 target is Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, who made his name under the German at Borussia Dortmund.
Meanwhile, Liverpool may have to play a home game away from Anfield this summer if they qualify for the Europa League. Rebuilding work of the main stand at Anfield means the Reds’ home will not be usable for games in July or early August.
Liverpool have already asked the Premier League to make their first two games of next season away from home as they will still be working on the stadium expansion.
The Reds are currently ninth in the Premier League, but the Europa League places could end up going as far down as seventh depending on who wins the FA Cup. — Daily Star.
