Zimbabwe more than a decade ago before disappearing from the limelight.
The forgotten sungura musician has bounced back with a six-track album titled “Ndakunga Neshoko”.
If people do mature with age like wine, then Liversy Matamba is one such character.
The album will firmly entrench him among the real sungura artistes blessed with talent and have the passion to achieve more.
The album is his eighth offering over a career that spans more than two decades.
Matamba, who was once with the Bhundu Boys, fronts Chivaraidze Express.
The soft-spoken musician said the album was full of social commentary.
“The album shows how I have grown as a musician. I have been in the music industry for some time now and hope this album will catapult me to my glory days,” he said.
Matamba is well known for churning out hits such as “Hazvina Mhosva”, “Mbimbindoga”, “Ndipowo Rudo” and “Samere Samere”.
However, the Highfield-based artiste said he does not have instruments of his own, something that was hampering his efforts to resume live shows.
“I was in hibernation doing nothing tangible. I wish to resume shows but the promoters are shunning me. I am appealing to promoters to give me a chance to show them I am not a spent force,” he said.
“Lack of sponsorship has always been my biggest setback. I have been recording and this is my eighth album but the studios that I have been using have been failing to market my music. I have also not been well, so I could not concentrate on my music,” he added.
Matamba started his music career with Dove Band led by Kenny Chitsvatsva in the early 1990s before joining Bundu Boys in 1994.
“When the Bhundu Boys returned from England, I did an album with them titled ‘Zvinoitika’ that did well and I then formed my own band, Chivaraidze Express, in 2000.
“Since then I have been releasing songs that have been well received by music fans across the country,” he said.
Matamba was born in 1970 in Hurungwe where he did his education before heading to Harare to start his music career.
