Government is formulating a livestock policy to help boost the national herd and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, a senior Government official has said.
Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Deputy Minister Responsible for Livestock Cde Paddy Zhanda said this at a prize giving ceremony in Honde Valley recently.

He said improvement in livestock breeding was important for the sector’s development.

“My ministry is still working on a livestock policy which aims to guide the livestock industry and boost the national herd,” said Cde Zhanda.

“Consultations have been done in all provinces and the final meeting to review the draft will be held in the capital soon.”

He said there was need to support small-scale dairy farming to reduce the country’s milk import bill.
