Lobel’s boosts production capacity

In an interview, director for the Bulawayo division Mrs Monica Matanhire said the new line was expected to start running before the end February.

“We hope to boost production in Bulawayo through the installation of the second bread plant. Unfortunately, I cannot disclose how much the plant is worth since I do not have the exact figures off-hand,” she said.

Mrs Matanhire said the new plant was expected to boost production at the factory by producing 120 000 loaves of bread per day.

“We are looking forward to commissioning the plant before the end of February unless we encounter unforeseen challenges,” she said.

She said over the months the company had been facing challenges in meeting the increased demand for bread products in the market, with the existing production plant operating at optimum capacity.

“Last year the company was facing challenges in meeting increased market demand with some retail outlets running out of bread during the festive season.

“We hope the production line will boost production of bread to meet increased demand, traditionally encountered during the winter,” said Mrs Matanhire.

She assured customers that Lobel’s would continue to provide quality bread products at comparatively affordable prices.

The firm began its operations in Zimbabwe between the late 1940’s and early 1950’s when it was run by the Lobel brothers.

In 2002, a consortium of local entrepreneurs came together and bought Lobel’s Bread in Harare and Bulawayo.
