ORGANISERS of the Drogba Annual Football Tournament have said all is set for the inagural edition of the competition which begins tomorrow in Lobengula suburb.

Event sponsor Tumeliso Mokoena Ndlovu said its all systems go.

“All the months of preparation have brought us to this point where we can say it’s all systems go.
“We expect to have a successful and competitive event which we hope will grow bigger each year,” said Ndlovu.

Lobengula Rovers, Vitality, Njube Spurs, LMC, Lobengula Stars, Highflyers, Njube United, Emakhandeni will battle in male division while Lobengula City Queens and FMSA will be the women taking part in the competition.

Every participating team will walk out with training equipment at the end of the two-day event.

No monetary rewards will be offered but all the teams will receive training equipment that they will use when the junior league kicks off next year.

Ndlovu, the competition sponsor is not new to junior football.

He is the founder of New West City FC, a club that groomed players such as Highlanders’ Rahman Kutsanzira, former Bosso defender Tendai Ngulube, ex-players Warren Dube (How Mine) Zibusiso Sibanda (Harare City), Erico Phiri (Tsholotsho FC) and Blessing Mwandimutsira (Buffaloes FC).

He once served as the secretary-general of the Zifa Southern Region board that was led by veteran administrator Musa Mandaza.

Ndlovu has decided to go back to the basics by sponsoring an eight-team tournament that will draw teams from Lobengula, Njube and Emakhandeni suburbs. — @innocentskizoe
