A Zimbabwean dancehall artiste is making waves in Ghana with his song sitting on position  one for two weeks.

The chanter Isheunesu Munyongani (23) from Gweru’s Mkoba suburb is not known at home but is making waves at Ghana’s Obonu FM with his song I’m in love. Obonu FM is owned by Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

Known by his stage name Bonfire, Munyongani said he was thrilled at being recognised internationally though he is still to make a name locally.

“I am very proud of myself. This is just my first song yet it has managed to cross borders.

“I might not be known in Gweru or in Zimbabwe but it is quite satisfying that my work is being appreciated in some countries,” he said.

The single was recorded on 7 June at Ghetto Studio Empires in Gweru’s Mtapa suburb.

Bonfire is studying History and International Studies at Midlands State University.

“I only shared the track with my friends who are club DJs.

I was surprised when one of them informed me that it had made it and  was played on Obonu FM and people liked it.

Since then a lot of people liked it and are constantly voting for it,” he added.

The trending song has since got him a recording contract with the Ghana Dbez records owned by the Domion brothers.

Contacted for comment Obonu FM DJ Network confirmed the development.

“I can confirm that I have had Bonfire’s song on my top ten countdown for the past three weeks.

The song is currently on pole position,” he said.
