Local boxers in Zambia for WPBA matches

The four — Diana Makumbe, Nicola Mutonhori, Charles Manyuchi and Tinashe Madziwana — arrived in Lusaka yesterday.

Former Commonwealth flyweight champion Zvenyika “Mosquito” Arifonso is their trainer while Clyde Musonda is the manager.

Zambia’s Catherine Phiri is expected to trade leather with Nathalie Forget of Canada in a WPBA bantamweight title fight in the main match set for Lusaka’s Government Complex.

Zambia’s Oriental Quarries Boxing promotions are the match-matchers and have confirmed the arrival of Nathalie in Lusaka.

Nathalie, 38, has a record of seven fights with four wins and three draws while Phiri at 20 is undefeated in four matches.

Speaking before their departure on Wednesday, Musonda said Makumbe had been matched against Royda Mushukama in a non-title bantamweight clash while Mutonhora fights Lawrence Mwale in a non-title light-middleweight match.

Manyuchi will take on Dyson Mwisa in a welterweight challenge with Madziwana facing Gibson Kamoto in a bantamweight.

“I think it’s going to be another grudge match between Makumbe and Royda because the two have fought two times before.

“On both occasions in Livingstone and Lusaka, the fights were declared draws and we should be expecting another close encounter,” said Musonda.

Musonda also said Manyuchi should brace for a tight match as he is facing a mean opponent.

“Dyson is a title holder in Zambia but I hope Manyuchi is prepared because he fought to a draw in his last game in Namibia and I believe he will pick up from the fight in Windhoek,” said Musonda.

After the assignment in Zambia, Musonda is hoping to travel to Russia to further his qualifications in boxing after being invited for an attachment at the Sergey Krasnov Moscow Universal Boxing School.
