BULAWAYO fashion experts will tomorrow night hold a fashion show at the Bean There Café in Hillside to promote their online Fashion District Shop.
The aim of the show is to afford people from Bulawayo a chance to see locally made designs and support them hence the theme, “Supporting Home Grown Labels.”In an interview, Fashion District operations manager Tholakele Dlamini said a number of designs would be showcased at the event ranging from hand bags, jeans and other top quality clothing.
“There will be local designers such as Clix, Rebellious, Pink Rose and Blinq clothing lines all from different designers. We will also be having Nicki J bags on offer so people should come see for themselves,” she said.
Dlamini said from next year, the fashion shows would be held twice a year to cater for both winter and summer wear.
“This is the opening event, but next year towards winter we will hold a winter fashion show and another one in summer. We have some of the best designers and all they need is local support,” she said.
Dlamini encouraged local designers to engage them in order to have a sound local fashion industry that provides quality goods for residents.
“This is an open event for everyone and it is also open to every designer who wants to be part of the Fashion District Shop. Everyone is free to come showcase their designs,” she said.
Dlamini said they had plans to open a retail shop in Bulawayo but had opted for an online shop in the mean time.
“We want residents to familiarise with our products but we also know that not everyone has internet access. That is why we will open up retail shops in and around Bulawayo in the near future,” she said.
Dlamini said it was time for locals to support each other by buying locally made products.
“Zimbabwe is a rich country with a potential to dominate the fashion sector but people prefer to go out and buy foreign products.
“If we support each other, very soon we will see foreigners coming here to purchase our products,” she said.
