However, a few said the show was worth their money.
A number of music lovers said DJ Euphonik’s performance was way below their expectations.
Many revellers said local DJs performed far much better than DJ Euphonik and his counterpart, D-Rock.
House music fan, Nqobile Sibanda, who hailed Mark Vusani and Emitty Smooth, among other local DJs for an excellent performance, said if the South Africans had decided not to show up they would not have been missed.
“I want to credit our local DJs, Mark Vusani and Emitty Smooth in particular, for upstaging the foreign DJs.
“Truth be told, I have attended so many shows in Zimbabwe and abroad and I can safely say Euphonik’s show was nothing out of the ordinary,” Sibanda said.
He said previous shows held at Horizon always left a lasting impression but not the latest show.
“If one was to put Euphonik’s show on a comparative analysis with Black Coffee, DJ Kent, Oskido and the recent Tira shows, there is a huge gap in terms of attendance and keeping fans entertained,” he said.
Another reveller, Vusumuzi Ndlovu, said the show was below expectations as both DJs lacked a connection with the audience.
“I love Euphonik and I have been a fan since his Soul Candy days.
“This is not what I expected from him and I think some will agree with me that both DJs had no connection with the audience whatsoever,” he said.
Ndlovu also said DJ Tira’s show was very good because he related to the audience.
“What DJs need to understand, especially international ones, is that when performing before a new audience, there is need to constantly connect with the audience not only musically but also chorally.
“A DJ’s voice is the most powerful tool. DJ Tira for example constantly checked on his audience and as such fans could not get enough of him. On the other hand, Euphonik would go for close to half an hour without saying anything to his audience,” Ndlovu said.
However, some patrons said Euphonik’s performance was worth every dollar spent.
“I love Euphonik and I really had fun because he played some of my favourite tracks,” said Rumbidzayi Guwa, who drove all the way from Mutare alongside her partner to attend the show.
Another patron also said it was such an honour to be graced by the acclaimed DJ.
“It was such an honour to be graced by DJ Euphonik and my love and respect for him is drawn from his humble nature and love for his fans,” said Sakhile Ncube.
Born Themba Mbongeni Nkosi, DJ Euphonik said he loves the country and was overwhelmed by the response he got from fans.
“I love Zimbabwe and I was overwhelmed by the fan base this kind of music has created in Zimbabwe compared to South Africa,” said the DJ who also made time for his fans who wanted to be taken pictures together with him. He also signed autographs.
