LOCAL football could soon be back on SuperSport television following a watershed deal which will see a Zimbabwe football magazine show aired on the globally-acclaimed channels.
The local game has been absent from SuperSport for more than a decade having grown in stature during the few seasons it was being broadcasted.
The league, however, has been making significant baby steps thanks to the Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN Prime) which is showing at least two Premiership games every match day since signing a partnership with the Premier Soccer League some three years ago.
And the PSL continues to move in the right direction in commercializing the game after wedding SuperSport media content provider, Media Mora for the purposes of the premium magazine show which will not only advertise stakeholders of the game but promote sports tourism.
The partnership was unveiled at a function held in Harare yesterday.
PSL chairman Farai Jere hailed the partnership which he described as a game-changer in local football.
“This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Premier Soccer League as we officially enter into a partnership with Media Mora, a renowned South African media company that has been at the forefront of producing high-quality African football content for SuperSport International.
“This partnership is a monumental step forward, not only for the PSL but for Zimbabwean football as a whole. Media Mora has a proven track record of showcasing African football to global audiences, and now, through this collaboration, Zimbabwean clubs, players, and the rich stories of our football culture will be profiled on television screens across the world,” said Jere.
Media Mora have built themselves a huge reputation producing shows like the Eswatini PSL show, TP Mazembe and Bloemfontein Celtic shows for Supersport.
Company director Thomas Kwenaite said the Zimbabwe Football Magazine show will be a 30-minute production with a four-minute element for commercial purposes.
“The show will be broadcast as a 30-minute instalment and I would like to salute the Zimbabwe PSL for taking this bold step as this will change the game completely,” said Kwenaite.
“We will profile all the 18 teams in the PSL with repeats. This is a PSL show and they are the ones who will deliberate on issues to do with naming rights and all commercials.
“Zimbabwean media can also get the show from the PSL. The show will also include lower division, women and grassroots football.”
