LOCAL professional golfers have hailed the state-of-the-art Hills Golf Estate driving range, which is now nearing completion and is ready for practice at Warren Hills.
The driving range is the brainchild of property developer, Ken Sharpe, who will have the official opening of the golf range before the end of this month.
Hills driving range will have its club house apart from the main one for the golf course so that it matches international standards.
The range, which will probably be the best in the country upon completion, has attracted many praises from both local and international golfers.
Designed by Zvishavane-born former European Tour player, architect Peter Mitkovich, the Hills Golf Estates driving range will be among the top-rated in the continent as well.
Mitkovich was assisted by Zimbabwean professional Ryan Cairns in designing the range and course outline.
Ignatius Mketekete, a local professional, said he was happy that: “we now have a state-of-the-art golf course under construction and that will attract more sponsors to the sport.
“I am happy that there is something going on at Warren Hills which makes the sport grow in stature. We have some good driving ranges at Chapman and Borrowdale Brooke but the Hills looks way ahead,” said Mketekete.
Another professional, Munashe Madodha, who was once a teaching professional at Warren Hills, said he is happy that the course has improved a lot and is looking forward to see it attract top international professional players.
“I think it will be one of the best courses in the region and with it we can dream of hosting some European Tour events. There is room for improvement in terms of our course structures and everything start from here,” said Madodha.
Chester Mhende, one of the club members, was impressed with the progress the course reconstruction is taking.
“I am happy that the course reconstruction is taking shape and l believe golfers will enjoy. I joined the platinum membership as l have seen value in what WestProp is doing.
“The course is looking fabulous and l believe upon completion it will be one of the best in Africa,” said Mhende.
Sharpe, said his team were are well on target to complete the course before year end.
“It’s a privilege to see this vision coming to reality now.
“The course is well on time to open before the end of the year, the driving range is now almost finished.
“The designers guaranteed me that they are working overtime and almost seven holes out of the 18 are finished and the other 11 are well on target to be finished in time.”
