SULUMAN Chimbetu had a good day in office at the Africa Explosion musical extravaganza held at Kadoma’s Odyssey Hotel on Saturday.
The Orchestra Dendera Kings boss, who was included in the line-up at the 11th hour, silenced doubting Thomases with a superb performance that will remain engraved in the minds of those who attended the show for years.
He proved that local is lekker and won the hearts of many after playing both his late father, Simon Chimbetu’s compositions and his own songs.
Sulu, who was dressed in all white, proved that he deserved a place among the country’s top musicians. “I always give my best each time I perform and I don’t know where I got all this energy from,” he said.

Sulu, who has been starving fans of new music on the market, said he will not disappoint them.
“It has always been my wish to give fans value for money and I take time working on new stuff before releasing my music. I respect fans for putting a lot of faith in us,” he said.
Lady Storm, who made a name for herself as Jah Prayzah’s video vixen in Eriza’s visuals, was also on fire.
Backed by astar-studded group, Eriza’s energetic performance was electric. Her group was in high spirits, an indication that it had come well prepared for the event.
Kurai Makore, who performed his uncle Thomas Mapfumo’s songs and his own compositions, also delivered a polished act.

He was called back on stage by public demand. Jah Prayzah was at his usual best, but made a silly pronouncement via his road manager, Lloyd Kurima, barring all photographers from mainstream media from taking pictures during his performance. He now prefers that only his official photographer takes pictures and security enforce the ban. The main act of the day, Koffi Olomide, put up a subdued act. As a seasoned artist, he tried his best to win the hearts of many, but his performance left fans with mixed feelings.
South African pop group, Mafikizolo, performed as the closing act when most people were already leaving the venue.
As seasoned performers, the group did their best and simply fulfilled their slot.
The group, which is known for playing backtracks, was backed by a live band, which gave fans value for money.
