ALTHOUGH it now takes four hours longer to fly from Salisbury to Lusaka, demand for the new service to the Victoria Falls/Livingstone gateway to Zambia has led Air Rhodesia to increase the frequency of its flights.
The general manager, Mr Mervyn Eyett, said that in the first part of January traffic for Zambia travelling from Salisbury had increased from 80 passengers a week to 150, and traffic originating in Johannesburg and destined for Zambia from 150 a week to 210.
“Last year we operated flights from Salisbury to Victoria Falls. On January 1 we increased this to seven.
“Last year we operated four flights from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls or Livingstone. On January 1 that was increased to six flights a week.”
He said that from today flights between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls would be increased by one return flight every week-end between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls.
“This increase in services is a reflection of success we have achieved in establishing a gateway to the north.
“Businessmen are finding it is not the tedious journey they had at first thought.”
