SOUTH Africa-based jazz maestro, Louis Mhlanga will rekindle his musical romance with local fans when he performs at the Jazz & Soul of Zim Musical Festival this weekend.
The legendary musician is part of a line-up performing at Sherwood Golf Club in Mabelreign on Sunday.
The three-day festival begins Friday.
Jazz crooner Victor Kunonga, Mbeu and contemporary dance group Extra Mile are billed to perform on the opening day.
On Saturday, Jeys Marabini, Selmor Mtukudzi, IYF Koreans and Benari Note will alternate on the stage at the venue.
On Sunday, all the attention would be on Louis Mhlanga.
The iconic jazz crooner, arranger and producer, is billed to share the stage with Diana Samkange, Black Site and WaChari from Mutare.
In an interview with H-Metro, event coordinator, Yasin Dhala, who is no stranger when it comes to hosting jazz concerts, said:
“The jazz community in Harare has been asking us to organise festivals where they can relieve the old memories they have.
“We have been working as a team to put together this festival and we are happy with the response that we got from various stakeholders.
“I can confirm that Louis Mhlanga is definitely coming for this event.”
Yasin, who worked closely with Josh Hozheri when he used to organise similar festivals, believes the event will live to expectations.
“This event is a bit special for us in that I am now putting into practice what I learnt from others.
“What makes this festival special is that we are trying to give jazz lovers something to smile about as well as reviving the culture of the festival.
“We are going to make it an annual festival where new gems will be unearthed.
“We want to be remembered for churning out stars as well as celebrating local talent.”
Yasin assured the public that the festival will be a family affair.
“We are going to host kids games on Saturday and Sunday.
“We are also going to be open for exhibitions and open markets in the area.
“On that note, we are not only promoting jazz music on the day but we are going to make sure that those who are business-minded utilise the opportunity,” he said.
Judging by the line-up, fans will be treated to three days of mature music from jazz to Afro fusion and soul.
Meanwhile, the venue will hold a free Africa Day celebration on Thursday night.
Hope Masike, Nutty O, Dhadza D and Hwinza are set to grace the event.
