Social media may be a wild place, but one can never say it’s not resourceful. These days, it’s hard to get away with much of anything without it potentially circulating on social media. Even if you don’t want your business out for the world to see, innocent bystanders will do it for you.

A cross-border transport operator, commonly known as umalayitsha from Bulawayo, Thembani Nkomo, had a rude awakening when his alleged sexual shenanigans with a string of women were exposed on social media a few days before his wedding to one of his girlfriends, Lindiwe Ndlovu who is based in Ireland and reportedly using the name Linda Sikwili.

The wedding was held two weeks ago in Bulawayo. His other alleged girlfriends, both in Zimbabwe and South Africa were reportedly shocked and devastated by the news, struggling to process the betrayal and the sudden end of their relationships.

It appears Thembani, whose name literally means “trust,” betrayed the very meaning of his name by engaging in intimate relationships with numerous women and ultimately breaking their hearts. The expose was so damaging that the names and phone numbers of the women he was dating, including some married, were splashed on social media accompanied by warnings that Thembani was cheating on them and was only interested in their money.

Even Lindiwe, the woman he later married, had also been warned that Thembani was only after using her.  The warning suggested that Lindiwe, now based overseas, was being targeted for her money. She was also accused of not only giving Thembani money to pay lobola for herself but also of sponsoring their lavish wedding.

“Kulo Lindiwe yazi Mnawami uyayangisa, phezu kokuzilobola unika uThemba, umnike imali yokuthi akuvelele. Yikho  uzakhala. Awuzizweli mara uyisiphepheli eIreland. Uyadliwa sis vuka ebuthongweni. Khathesi ubusy udinga imali yokuzishadisa yena etshona engelamali, isigodo sesiyala ukumupha imali nhe. Kumbe ushadela ama properties abanye babafazi bakhe ngoba yena akanazo zonke lezi izindlu azisho kuwe ngaphandle kwale yePumula nje,” the warning to Lindiwe reads in part. (Lindiwe, my sister, it’s shameful that you’re paying for your own lobola. You’ll regret this. Don’t you feel sorry for yourself as a refugee in Ireland? You’re being taken advantage of. You need to wake up. Now you’re struggling to find money for your wedding and Thembani has nothing. Perhaps you’re marrying him for his possessions from his other girlfriends. Everything he claims as his own isn’t actually his, except the house in Pumula).

In addition to the existing accusations, some of his alleged girlfriends including Sphe, Lolo, Condy, Nyarie Cie, MaBanda, Manko, NaBongani, Buhle and another who is a teacher in Lupane also received warnings about Thembani’s intentions to exploit them financially.

“Sphe –nawe sisi ngyakudabukela shame. Mara ngangithi ukhulile. Yini ngawe bakushaya ngesigodo. Uthi uyathandwa, ngapha u Themba uyakutshaya, ngapha ufuna ukumzalela, haa wena uloyiwe straight. Uzomnikeza imali kuze kube nini, why ungayi kwakha kini? (And I feel sorry for you, my sister. I thought you were old enough to know better. You believe that Themba loves you and wants to have children with him, but you’re being deceived. You’re giving him money until when? Why don’t you invest in your own home instead?).

“Cie- can’t you see he’s your father, ulabantwana abalingana lawe, anyway ulisebenzisela isgodo. Can’t blame you much, you are bewitched. (Can’t you see that he’s the same age as your father and has children the same age as you? He’s probably using muthi on you.)

“Cindy-nawe dade nyanewabo kaLindiwe kuwe uzifunela imoney nothing much. (And you, my sister, who’s sharing a boyfriend with Lindiwe, he’s only after money, nothing more).

“Lolo- Nawe Lolo haaa badla. Eye Jehova umjita ufuna imali, clothing, perfumes. Actually, you are under a spell sisi. Nga liyathola olilungisayo masinya. (And you, Lolo, he’s only after your money, clothes and perfumes. You’re probably under a spell. You should find someone to help you break it).

“NaBongani-sis wami bakutshiyisa umendo bekuthembisa ukukuthanda. Lokukuthatha manje ukuphi nhee, haa lawe lawe ubufebe. Umnikeze imali futhi ngapha udla imali ka Lindiwe… khonapho umntwana wabantu wahamba nzima forging papers wena lo Themba lisidla imali yakhe. (My sister, he convinced you to leave your marriage by promising to marry you. Did he ever marry you? Where are you now? You love men too much. You’re also enjoying Lindiwe’s money. Imagine her struggling in Ireland, forging papers, while you’re squandering her money with Themba).”

His actions were so deceitful that several women came forward and formed a WhatsApp group to share their experiences and seek support. In the WhatsApp group, the women shared their experiences and the lavish gifts they allegedly bought for Thembani. One woman claimed that she purchased a car for him, while others said they helped him complete the construction of his house in Pumula South.

Additionally, some women claimed that they bought him expensive clothes and borrowed him money, which he never repaid. Based on their conversations, it was clear that the women were struggling to accept Thembani’s permanent departure after his marriage. Many were still grappling with the reality of his disappearance and the betrayal they felt, experiencing a range of emotions from anger and sadness to confusion and disbelief.

One woman, overcome with heartbreak and regret, posted a car, which she claimed she had bought for Thembani.

Her post was filled with raw emotion as she reflected on her past relationship with him and the sacrifices she had made. Although some of the women were not comfortable speaking to the Press, several confirmed their intimate relationship with Thembani, saying he had exploited them. They said they learnt about each other after their names and phone numbers were posted on social media.

“I’m deeply disturbed. The news deeply affected me. To imagine that he was putting my life and the lives of many others at risk by having numerous sexual partners. To think about what I did for him and how he betrayed me like that. On the day I received the wedding pictures, it felt like my world had fallen apart,” said one of the victims.

“I’m filled with anger and hurt. I can’t believe he would betray me like this. He promised me a lifetime together, but all he gave me was heartbreak,” lamented another victim.

When contacted for comment, Thembani did not deny the allegations circulating against him, claiming they were the actions of someone bitter about his moving on. He said he also received those damaging messages on his wedding day. He claimed that everyone has a complex past.

“Someone with anger, bitter (ness) (is) trying to pain me with exes. So, who doesn’t have history, and nothing will change about the woman I have chosen …and nothing will change. Who is doing this and for what (reason)? Did I rob anyone and who says they bought me a car or a house? How stupid was the person? I worked hard for all I have and chose the person I felt was good for me. Now, anger is killing the so-called person. Some of my exes knew I was in a steady relationship but the issue of me being helped to buy the house or cars it’s (from) someone who is angry.  This should be from a  woman who thought she might be my wife or someone with a grudge against me. Everyman has a past and chooses what he feels is best for him (sic),” he said in a WhatsApp response.

Feeling that their WhatsApp responses were insufficient, the newly weds, Thembani and Lindiwe visited B-Metro to share their side of the story.

However, after learning that the story would be published, they refused to answer questions from the news crew. In a fit of anger, Thembani boasted on their way out of the newsroom that even if the story was published, it wouldn’t harm his marriage, as he had already moved on.

Thembani continued to insist that everyone has a complicated past. In an attempt to support her husband, Lindiwe also boasted that nothing would separate them.

She dismissed claims of being an undocumented immigrant in Ireland, stating that she had regularised her status and was ready to move back with her husband. Hand in hand and radiating love, Thembani and Lindiwe walked out of the newsroom, their actions symbolising their unwavering commitment to each other.
