A 20-year-old man from Filabusi is on the run after fatally stabbing another man in a dispute over a woman.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Chiratidzo Dube, confirmed the incident, which took place at Macoomber 14 Mine.
She revealed that the accused, Martin Ncube from Nkayi, had a long-standing grudge with Luckson Mangizi over an unnamed girlfriend.
According to Insp Dube, Ncube allegedly attacked Mangizi after being confronted about the woman, who is Mangizi’s ex-girlfriend.
“On 10 July 2025, at around 8 a.m. at Macoomber 14 Mine Compound, Filabusi, Martin Ncube went to his girlfriend’s shack where they drank beer with her cousins. Luckson Mangizi also arrived and drank beer alone. Around 8 p.m., Mangizi approached the accused, who was standing about 10 metres from the fireplace. The two exchanged harsh words, and an altercation ensued over the girlfriend. Ncube then withdrew a sjambok and a Columbia knife from his pocket, causing Mangizi to run away,” she said.
Insp Dube added that Ncube pursued Mangizi along a footpath towards the bushes. Moments later, Ncube returned to the fireplace holding a blood-stained Columbia knife. He then placed the knife in his pocket and disappeared into the darkness.
The following day, Mangizi’s body was discovered by an unidentified artisanal miner walking alone along a footpath. The incident was reported to the police, who attended the scene and transported Mangizi’s body to Filabusi District Hospital.
Insp Dube appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect. She also urged people to avoid violence when faced with disputes.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Martin Ncube to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Mbizo on 0777 248 757 / 0714 100 448 or report to the nearest police station. We also urge the public to desist from engaging in violence during disputes and to seek amicable ways to resolve differences,” she said.
