Low scores dominate Division One

IT was a low scoring start for the Zifa Southern Region Division One League with just 10 goals in the opening week. All title favourites started with wins, except for Bantu Rovers, who lost away to ZPC Hwange through a Morgan Nyoni strike that condemned Johannes Ngodzo’s side to misery.

Across the coal mining town, veteran coach Weekly Mwale started life in the lower league on a winning note as his Technosphere beat league debutants ZRP Hwange 1-0 courtesy of a Manyando Zulu goal.

“Losing a season opener isn’t a favourable result, but my boys are very composed and confident. We are already planning ahead for the next game”, wrote Ngodzo on the club’s official Facebook wall.

At Fairbridge, Bulawayo Chiefs condemned Makomo to a 2-1 defeat, with goals coming from Qinani Sibanda and Joseph Mutambiranwa, while Barnabas Mudambu got the visitors’ consolation.

Highlanders 90 received a baptism of fire in their debut second tier league match when they were hammered 1-3 by Amagagasi at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

The visitors got their goals from Musa Gwara and a brace by Nhlanhla Ndlovu. Smart Daudi was on target for the Highlanders’ youngsters.
