A 42-YEAR-OLD Epworth man has appeared in court facing unlawful entry charges after allegedly breaking into a Damofalls house and stealing cash and valuables worth over US$17 000.
Lucky Dube appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Artwell Sanyatwe, who denied him bail and remanded him in custody to May 26 for trial.
The complainant, Edwin Chivima, operates a chicken-selling business.
Prosecutor Ms Dzidzai Josiah told the court that on April 27, 2026, at around 8pm, Chivima secured his house by locking all doors and windows before retiring to bed.
At about 2am the following day, Chivima allegedly heard unusual noises inside the house and woke up to find Dube ransacking the premises.
The court heard that after realising he had been spotted, Dube allegedly fled through a dining room window.
Chivima reportedly pursued him, but failed to apprehend him.
After inspecting the house, Chivima allegedly discovered that a satchel, three cellphones, two power banks and cash amounting to US$12 000, R20 000 and P3 000 had been stolen.
A report was subsequently made at ZRP Ruwa.
The court heard that on May 6, 2026, detectives received information linking Dube to a series of theft cases allegedly targeting residents in Greater Harare.
Investigations led to his arrest at his residence in Epworth, where detectives reportedly recovered two cellphones.
Further investigations allegedly established that the recovered phones belonged to Chivima and had been stolen during the Damofalls break-in.
Dube allegedly implicated an accomplice identified only as Chris, who remains at large.
The total value of the stolen property is US$17 410, and only property worth US$350 has been recovered.
