THE Lunar Park has returned to Victoria Falls after nine years of absence.
Situated north of the VictoriaFalls Police Station, the Lunar Park has games including the big wheel, boats, train, jets and shells as well as machines for adult games. Games range from $1 to $3 while face painting costs $1.
Zim Lunar Gardens director Charles Gomwe said they were happy to have finally brought the park to the resort town which has been starved of recreational activity.
“We decided to come here by public demand. People had always been making enquiries as to when we’d come so we decided to treat them,” Gomwe said.
Besides bringing recreational activity to town, the Lunar Park which has been in Vic Falls for the past two weeks, has presented brisk business for vendors who are cashing in by selling toys, food and doing face painting.
The fanfare which was supposed to end on June 15 had to be extended to next month after the public pleaded with owners of the Park.
“We were supposed to dismantle our games on June 15 but we’ve since extended the days because people have shown interest in the activities. The turnout has been good.”
Gomwe said Zim Lunar Gardens which also runs games in Bulawayo, Harare, Gweru and Masvingo, had been affected by the liquidity crunch as people were no longer flocking to the Park as they used to do way back.
“We’ve been affected by the country’s economic hardships. We used to rely on workers who’d have money to spend on Lunar Park for their children, but that’s now a thing of the past since the majority are now unemployed,” he said.
“We only get huge numbers during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair and the Harare Agricultural Show. From these other sites, we just get enough to pay workers and transport our equipment.”
