Lunga: Every game is a must-win game

MAMELODI Sundowns left-back Divine Lunga has said one of the secrets to the side’s success is that they treat every game like their first match of the season.

One would think there might be a sense of complacency creeping into Sundowns, having won four league titles in a row, but the Brazilians appear hungrier and more ruthless than ever after a commanding 3-0 win over Swallows FC at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.

Zimbabwe international Lunga, who joined the club from Golden Arrows in the off-season, believes he didn’t start the match well, but was happy with how he improved as the game went on.

“I think the first 20 minutes I wasn’t confident,” he said.

“When the coach told me ‘Divine, push yourself’, then I started to play better. Then second-half I think I played well.

I’m always working hard at training. Coach Rhulani and Manqoba tell me that when I control the ball, I have to look forward first. So that we can create more chances.

“Every game is a must-win game. We don’t care about the wins behind us. In every game we play, we treat it like our first game of the season. We always want to collect maximum points and stretch the gap.” — Kick-Off
