Lupane District takes early lead in gold medals at NASH Matabeleland North Athletics Competitions

LUPANE District has taken an early lead in gold medals after four final events at the ongoing National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) Matabeleland North track and field athletics competitions.

Lupane has already secured two gold medals in the boys’ Under-20 10,000m and the Under-16 boys’ shot put

Likwa Tshuma clinched gold in the 10,000m race, finishing in 36.57 minutes. Thembinkosi Bhehane of Umguza took silver with a time of 37.16 minutes, while Pritchard Charedza of Bubi settled for bronze after crossing the line in 38.04 minutes.

In the shot put, Lupane’s Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda threw 9.10m to claim gold. Munashe Kuvenga of Bubi secured silver with a throw of 9.04m, and Sibusiso Moyo of Hwange took bronze with an 8.73m throw.

Tsholotsho and Bubi have also secured one gold medal each. Iziqholo zeZhwane won gold in the Under-18 girls’ high jump after Nosipho Ndlovu cleared 1.43m. Nomalanga Ndlovu of Bubi took silver with a jump of 1.40m, the same height as Nkosikhona Ngwenya of Lupane, who secured bronze after clearing the height on her second attempt.

Bubi’s gold came in the girls’ Under-16 javelin, where Unathi Ndlovu threw 31.84m to claim the top spot.
