Relatives of Zibusiso Treasure Moyo are increasingly worried for his safety following his sudden disappearance, which they believe is linked to his relationship with Lucia Gumede, a woman unaware of her ties to a dangerous figure in the community.
Moyo, a resident of Lupane, was reportedly involved with Gumede, who is also from the same area. Unbeknownst to Moyo, Gumede was married to Nhamo Moyo, a prominent supporter of the ruling Zanu-PF party.
Nhamo Moyo recently gained freedom, under unclear circumstances, after being convicted in 2021 for kidnapping and attempted murder. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the abduction of an alleged supporter of the opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
To the shock of the local community, Nhamo Moyo re-emerged in the village after just one year of incarceration, under unclear circumstances.
Upon his return, he wasted no time in informing villagers that he was actively searching for Zibusiso Treasure Moyo, vowing to “deal with” him for having a relationship with his wife.
“We are terrified for Zibusiso’s life. He just vanished, and no one knows where he is,” said a close relative, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “When we learned about Nhamo’s threats, we couldn’t help but feel that Zibusiso was in grave danger. He didn’t deserve this.”
The relative detailed that Zibusiso had been unaware of the dangerous situation he was stepping into when he began dating Gumede. “He thought he was in love, but now it seems that love has put him in the crosshairs of a violent man with a history of criminal behaviour,” they added.
Community members have expressed their fears as well, recounting Nhamo Moyo’s aggressive demeanor upon his return. “He has been boasting about wanting to confront Zibusiso,” one villager stated. “We all know what he’s capable of, and we fear for Zibusiso’s life.”
As the search for Zibusiso continues, his family is appealing to local authorities for assistance. “We are worried about his safety, wherever he is because Nhamo is out for blood and has vowed to locate him and deal with him,” said the relative. “This is not just about a love affair; it’s about a man’s life.”
The situation has raised alarm within the community, highlighting the potential dangers stemming from personal relationships intertwined with local politics and criminal histories. As Nhamo Moyo’s threats loom over Zibusiso, the urgency for his safe return grows.
Relatives and villagers alike are left hoping for a peaceful resolution to this troubling situation, while remaining vigilant against the threats that have emerged in the wake of love turned dangerous.
