Zimbabwean woman deported from Cameroon after lesbian affair is exposed

A ZIMBABWEAN woman who was caught in Cameroon having a lesbian affair with a Cameroonian has been deported from the West African country after she was also convicted for engaging in a same sex sexual relationship.

Tafadzwa Ndou who had moved to Cameroon seeking greener pastures arrived at the Robert Mugabe International Airport where she narrated her ordeal to journalist before being whisked away by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

Ndou revealed that she had been in a lesbian affair with Ndilumte Florence Ghaila who operates a hair salon that had become popular with members of the LGBTIQ community.

She revealed that she had been arrested during a raid of the salon after people had raised a red flag on its operations.

Cameroon criminalises same-sex sexual activity between men and between women. Sentences include a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a fine.

“Ndilumte Florence Ghaila herself was bisexual hence why the hair salon was now popular among the LGBTIQ community. We would go there and do our hair and also just meet for social interaction as in most places we were being ill-treated just for being lesbian.

“On the day we were arrested, we were taken to prison without trial where I personally was even sexually harassed. I have been illegally detained for three months now before I was deported back to my country,” said Ndou.

Questioned on the fate of Ghaila, Ndou revealed that she had last seen her when they were arrested but had no knowledge of her whereabouts after that.

“I honestly fear for the worst because I do not know what became of her after our arrest but her crime was just providing us with a place just to do our hair and also interact as members of the LGBTIQ community,” she said.

Ndou will reportedly be detained at Chikurubi maximum prison while Zimbabwe authorities engage with their Cameroonian counterparts with indications that a prison sentence will be given to her.

This publication tried to reach out to Ndilumte Florence Ghaila in Cameroon but all her mobile phones were not going through with indications that she had gone into hiding after her hair salon was raided.
