LUTON Town manager Rob Edwards has all but confirmed that Zimbabwe international midfielder and Warriors captain Marvellous Nakamba will miss the remainder of the 2023/24 English Premiership season following an injury he suffered late last year.

Nakamba tore his meniscus while passing the ball during a training session with The Hatters and subsequently went under the knife last month with the hope that he would be out for between just six to eight weeks.

Speaking to Lutontoday, Edwards revealed that the ex-Aston Villa man would need some significant period on the side lines.

“It’s not great. It is still going to be quite a significant one. We still don’t know definitely on a time, but it is months,” said Edwards.

“It’s a real hard one for him, first of all, because he’s so important to us.

“You don’t want anyone injured anyway, but I love seeing his smiley face around all the time, around the training ground.

“When he’s in there (treatment room at The Brache) he’s still smiling, but you can see it’s hurting him that he can’t get out there and train.

“But we’ll do everything we can to support him and get him back as quick as possible. When that is, right now I don’t know, but it will be a couple more months at least.”

Luton Town are currently struggling in the league where they are third from bottom with 16 points from 20 games and Edwards will need the Zimbabwean, who was instrumental in their promotion into the English Premier League last season while he was on loan from Aston Villa.

He subsequently inked a permanent deal in August last year.

Nakamba was named the Warriors captain alongside Marshall Munetsi and Teenage Hadebe in November last year following the retirement of Knowledge Musona from international duty.

The Bantu Rovers graduate started his tenure as the leader of the ship with two back-to-back draws in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria.
