L’vovo Derango’s (real name Thokozani Ndlovu) show was a flop as just over 100 fans pitched up to witness his performance that was supposed to shut down the Trade Fair weekend.
The show was held at Stop Over Bar on Saturday night with Qeqeshiwe Mntambo also performing.
Show promoters had the Inamandla hit maker holed up at a local hotel for most of the day and only came to the show at about midnight and began performing at 1AM and ended his set at 2.00AM.
Many fans were seen milling outside the venue waiting to catch a glimpse of the South African kwaito star.
Many fans left as the night wore on except for diehard fans, some of whom had travelled from as far as Beitbridge.
When the fans outside started leaving show promoters reduced the entrance fee from $10 to $5.
Speaking after the show L’vovo said he was not disappointed by the low turnout hence he gave the show his best as though he was performing in front of 20,000 fans.
“I came here to perform for my fans in Zimbabwe. It doesn’t matter whether I am in front of 20 people or 20,000, I will do what I am paid to do, that is to entertain,” he said.
L’vovo said the last time he was in Bulawayo the place was packed and he enjoyed his stay.
“I enjoyed myself last time I had fun with the guys. We performed somewhere in the city and the show was well attended,” he said.
During his one-hour performance L’vovo backed by upcoming Kwaito musician Fanele “Fah” Hlubi and Sithabiso on the decks, took the crowd down memory lane as they sang hits like Touch and Mchose from the album The Heavyweight, Mina Wena from Teddy Bear, and Resista from L’vovo Derango.
The crowd was constantly requesting the hit song Palesa which features Professor.
Derango obliged towards the end of the show much to the excitement of the crowd.
Meanwhile, next door at Club Forty 40, Killer T real name Kelvin Kusikwenyu gave an uninspiring one-hour performance.
Killer T arrived late after he had left Harare at 6PM and arrived in Bulawayo just after midnight.
He performed from 1.30AM to 2.30AM.
Killer T who was probably taking advantage of the drunken revellers, was repeating the hit Tirukumhanya.
Chants like “Popopopopo, puuuuullll loooo”, characterised the show.
According to reports Killer T performs for $700 per hour and he could afford to repeat his hit.
He performed songs like Ishe Tipenjere, Batai Mbabva Iyo and Masuspects among others.
Revellers were disappointed when Killer T left the stage in a huff.
