THE Government is rehabilitating Lytton Road which links the city centre with suburbs such as Rugare, Kambuzuma and Mufakose, and plans to fix more Harare roads in the coming days.

Some major roads that are almost complete include Chinhanda Road in Glen Norah, which is a bypass from the Mbudzi interchange.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development said the roadworks.

“ERRP2 update, asphalt overlaying in progress on Chimhanda road. The road is being used as part of the western bypass during the Mbudzi interchange construction.

“Ninety percent of traffic branching off to the west before the interchange use the road as part of the detour.”

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, said they had accelerated their road rehabilitation programme countrywide.

Minister Mhona said the Government was not just talking, but walking the talk.

“Our Government has been working around the clock to ensure that roads are rehabilitated after President Mnangagwa declared all roads a State of Disaster in 2021,” he said.

The move has been welcomed by residents and motorists who have been complaining about the poor state of the roads.

Many have commended the Government for taking action, noting that the state of the roads had become a major hindrance to economic development and social mobility.

The rehabilitation of Harare roads is part of the Government’s broader efforts to improve the country’s infrastructure and create a conducive environment for investment.

The Government has also been rehabilitating other infrastructure such as airports and and dams to support economic growth and development.
