M-Net Africa finally wakes up

the past week M-Net Africa announced that two of South Africa’s most popular soaps — Generations and Isidingo — will now be aired on DStv.
An excited Biola Alabi, who is the managing director of M-Net Africa, made the announcement as if it was something new to us yet this we have been doing watching these soapies our free to air decoders.

What it actually means is that Biola and her team had not realised how popular these two programmes were especially in Southern Africa.
And in this column we had hoped that M-Net Africa would wake up from its deep slumber to realise that there were other good productions outside Nigeria.

The announcement was made as part of the “exciting revision of its channel line-up” on the pioneering continental TV brand AfricaMagic.
Right now one of M-Net productions, Studio 53, still thinks there are 53 countries in Africa and yet it’s now 54 and you don’t need a PhD to know this.

And still on Studio 53,  we don’t remember when we last saw something from Zimbabwe?
However, those who wish to watch Generations and Isidingo can do so on DStv’s AfricaMagic Entertainment channel 128. But one good thing about this is that viewers outside of South Africa, where both series are produced, the best place to watch the freshest episodes will be AfricaMagic Entertainment.

“And the fact that we will be screening the latest episodes shortly after the SABC is a great benefit to our audiences,” Biola said. Generations will be screening on AfricaMagic Entertainment from Monday to Friday at 21:30 CAT, with episodes re-screened the following weekday at 13:00 CAT.

Fans can also look out for an omnibus of the week’s episodes on Saturday afternoon.
Isidingo will be screened on AfricaMagic Entertainment from Monday to Friday at 22:00 CAT, with episodes re-screened the following weekday at 16:00 CAT.
