A 30-YEAR-OLD man almost lived up to his surname after he went on a wild, drunken hacking spree — slashing his stepmother and sister with a machete in a late-night family feud.
Lisban Mabulala, whose surname means killer or one who kills, from Chidavaenzi Village in Chimanimani will now spend the next six years in prison after a court ruled that his blade-happy behaviour was a cut above the rest — in all the wrong ways.
On 13 September, a heavily intoxicated Mabulala stormed home and demanded answers from his stepmother, Marvis Muyambo (45), over why she and his sister were staying at the family homestead.
“When Muyambo tried to reason with him, Mabulala whipped out a machete and struck her on the neck, leaving a deep cut,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) in a statement.
His sister Tsitsi (35) rushed in to break up the fight — but instead of peace talks, she got sliced like sadza at a famous canteen.
“She was slashed twice on both palms as she tried to block his blows,” said the NPAZ.
Mabulala was convicted of attempted murder and domestic violence. He was sentenced to eight years for attempted murder, with two years suspended, plus four months for domestic violence. The sentences will run together, leaving him with an effective six years behind bars.
The NPAZ urged communities to seek peaceful conflict resolution:
“Machete violence and domestic abuse will not be tolerated. Report violent behaviour early before it escalates.”
From Mabulala to majailed, this family feud shows why you should never mix booze, blades, and bad tempers!
