Mabunu wins 21st February Movement Road Race

February Movement 10km Road Race that finished at Machipisa Shopping Centre yesterday.

The 24-year-old Mabunu stopped the clock in 29 minutes 22s to beat the other 360 runners who had entered the competition that was flagged off from President Mugabe’s house in Old Highfields. On Saturday, Mabunu had done well to prepare for the road race when he won the 1 500m race during the Senior National Track and Field Championships at the National Sports Stadium. Mabunu beat Simbarashe Chikadaga of Black Rhinos into second after as he posted 29 min 32 seconds while Zimbabwe Prison Service athlete, Jonathan Chinyoka, came third. For winning the race, Mabunu walked home with US$ 5000 while Chikadaga got US$2 500 and Chinyoka pockted US$1500.

The race had total purse money of US$50 000 for all the categories as the 10 finishers walked away smiling.
In the women’s Open section, veteran Olivia Chitate from the Zimbabwe Republic Police took first prize after clocking 34 min 27 sec while Constance Nyasango of Kuwadzana Club was second.
